Antigua & Barbuda

The Commonwealth country of Antigua and Barbuda sit between the waters of the Atlantic and the Caribbean converge. The country is composed of its two large namesake islands and a collection of smaller ones and is famous for its palm-lined beaches, coral reefs, and rainforests. Antigua & Barbuda are also a world-renowned sailing destination and from the English Harbour in St. Johns, many of the biggest championships and events are hosted here. Antigua blends the beauty of the tropics with world-class hospitality making it an excellent choice for a long getaway. Check out some of these amazing things that make it stand out:

Set Sail from the English Harbour. Antigua & Barbuda has a long sailing history. The island of Antigua was actually one of the first Christopher Columbus saw in the Americas. Since then, the island has had a rich history and being a major sugarcane and rum producer. At times, it was a hideout for the world’s most famous pirates before the English established a permanent base there. Now the English Harbour is home to a wide array of yachts and boats ready to crisscross the waters of the Atlantic and Caribbean.

Enjoy Some Windsurfing and Other Watersports. To the north of St. Johns, the island’s capital, you can head to Dickenson Bay, a large beach surrounded by hotels and bars. This is the perfect place to base yourself during your trip to Antigua. From here you can head to the windsurfing capital of Half Moon Bay or Darkwood Beach which is a popular snorkeling spot. Both of these also are excellent places to enjoy other water sports or even head out a little further to enjoy a little deep-sea fishing.

Take it Easy on Barbuda Island. Antigua and Barbuda are excellent balances for each other. Antigua is a little more touristy as well as action-packed with activities both on and off the shore—you can also zip line in the jungle. Barbuda is a good place to just take it all in. One of the best places to do that is the Frigate Bird Sanctuary which is the home to majestic, red-pouched frigate along with over a hundred other species of birds. The beaches of Barbuda are also an excellent spot to try your hand a little surfing. Between Antigua & Barbuda and their surrounding islands, there’s the perfect balance between thrilling and laidback making this the perfect destination for your next great adventure.
