From Navy Pier and Along the Gold Coast. The founders of Chicago established the city as an important trading port along the massive Lake Michigan that eventually connects to the Mississippi River and out to the ocean. As such, the city has so many amazing lakefront districts. The best place to begin is the iconic navy pier which stretches out into the famous lake and is full of great things to do. From here, you can cruise along the famous Gold Coast and enjoy the area’s amazing restaurants, bars, and even a few beautiful nature trails.
Sail and Enjoy the Chicago River. If you’ve looked at any pictures of Chicago, it likely includes a portion of the famous river that runs through the city. The name actually refers to a total of 156 miles of combined canals, river and other waterways that make up the river. The Chicago River is one of the most important features in the identity of the city. It’s famously dyed green to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and has even been dyed Cubs Blue in honor of the local team. From this impressive river, you can get a full understanding of this wonderful region.
