Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe is a classic American getaway. The largest Alpine lake in the country, Lake Tahoe is located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains on the California-Nevada border. Although the drive is only a few hours from San Francisco, many people choose to fly to Reno which is only a thirty-minute drive away. Lake Tahoe is a year-round destination famous for being home to the 1960 Winter Olympics on the incredible slopes of Squaw Valley as well as the relaxing and beautiful charm of summer on the lake. Here are some of our top choices for the great activities of Lake Tahoe.

Discover the Beauty of Emerald Bay State Park. The southwest corner of Lake Tahoe is home to Emerald Bay, a National Landmark. This large park encompasses not just Emerald Bay, but a large chunk of the lake and surrounding landscapes. Here you can explore the beauty of Eagle Falls which cascade down from the mountains as well as the unique Vikingsholm—a Scandinavian mansion designed over a hundred years ago. The area is also an excellent spot to enjoy a little fishing, kayaking and more.

Taste the True Freedom of Nature at Desolation Wilderness. With a name like The Desolation Wilderness, you can imagine that the area is quiet. This park is part of a 64,000-acre wilderness area inside the El Dorado National Forest. If you are looking to truly experience the great outdoors then this is it. The pristine nature area is home to some of the largest trees, clearest waters and best scenery in all of California. You can even scale along the ridge of the Sierra Nevada Mountains to get an amazing panorama of the lakes and hills.

Savor A Destination for All Seasons. Lake Tahoe is truly a four-season destination. For lake activities, summer is the high season, but many California waits until early fall to enjoy the incredible foliage around the lakeside. Winter is, of course, famous because of the large number of different ski resorts including Squaw Valley along with Northstar California Resort and many others. Whether you are looking to hike, fish, camp, ski or snowboard, Lake Tahoe is truly a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. If you want to really experience the lake in all its glory, be sure you charter a boat so you can explore the many great spots around California’s most famous lake.
